Almost every second cat furniture doubles as a coffee table. The concept has become so cliché that there is hardly any creativity brewing in the pet furniture market. Despite all this banality, there are a few pet furniture makers who are trying to make a name for themselves. Giuseppa Maria Scaccia is one such interior designer from Italy who launched her own pet furniture brand DONARTURO which is slowly rising to fame. The reason is, it’s minimal, functional, and yet aesthetic.

I won’t quote Giuseppa’s idea to be groundbreaking, yet it varies from other cat house designs popular in the market at the moment. Unlike big rectangular boxes, heated cat houses or cute caves, Giuseppa offers a cat house for your feline that is cubical in shape. Dubbed Cuba, the transversal piece of furniture is for cats and humans and can be used simultaneously as a coffee table or bedside table.

The cubical design of the cat house is inspired by the cardboard boxes. There is no denying that cats love to hide in small spaces like cardboard cartons and Giuseppa’s DONARTURO exactly makes cat houses that are small yet spacious for your feline. There is no rocket science involved in making the cat house as the structure is merely derived from folding a metal sheet.

Going into the nitty-gritty details of the cat house, it features a base that is a 3 cm thick brushed chestnut board. The board provides stability to the kennel boasting a white or black color frame. The cat house is enclosed from all sides, leaving an opening in the front section for the cat to move in and out of the structure.

On the back side of the cube, there is jute rope weaved like a spider web. I am assuming it is deliberately put there to keep the cat busy. Whether it can be used for scratching or not, only a cat can tell. Whatever might be the case, the jute web makes the structure airier and certainly a lot for comfortable for the feline.

There is also a cushion placed inside the cat house with removable covers. The cushion is available in two classic and elegant colors that match perfectly with the structure. Retailing for $580, Cuba cat house can be availed at the official website of DONARTURO.
