Duffy London is one brand that never seems to disappoint me with its ground-breaking design. So much so, that I have high expectations set from Christopher Duffy and his team, every time they drop a new piece in the market. Dune coffee table is their latest creation which dives into the possibility of 3D-printing technology.

Beautiful, bold and dynamic in appearance, the biggest highlight of the coffee table is its base section that is 3D-printed using the black quartz sand. It boasts a wave-like pattern of sweeping sand dunes, hence driving the name, Dune.

“Watching a new form emerge from a mountain made up of millions of grains of sand was so inspiring to me,” said Christopher Duffy. Hailing this as an inspiration, Duffy London has dipped its toes into large-scale 3D-printed sand furniture, but the efforts are worth testimonial.

For the project, the company has joined hands with German manufacturer Sandhelden who holds expertise in 3D printed Architecture and design made of sand. The partnership resulted in a centerpiece that’s equally charming and functional.

Unlike any other Duffy London design, the table isn’t about psychedelic concepts or optical illusions, rather it celebrates the legacy of 3D manufacturing. Dune truly bewitches our attention to the centerpiece while mimicking the essence of the desert with its incredible fluidity.

Complementing its black quartz sand base is the toughened glass that adds even more elegance to the coffee table. Christopher Duffy, further stated, “I love all aspects of innovation in design and manufacturing, and this is no different. By 3D printing in actual quartz sand, we are getting as close as we can be to mirroring the concept for the Dune table. Discovering this new process is really exciting to us as a studio as it completely blows apart the design brief.”
