GE Appliances, a subsidiary of the Chinese consumer electronics and home appliances company Haier, launches its new Smart Countertop Microwave featuring Amazon Alexa compatibility and Scan-to-Cook technology. Using the GE Appliances Kitchen app, the scan-to-cook technology enables users to scan barcodes on food packaging to automatically provide the microwave with data related to cooking time and power levels to ensure a perfectly cooked food every time, without having any cooking experience.
Shawn Stover, VP of GE Appliances’ SmartHome Solutions team, said;
GE Appliances’ research shows consumers don’t use the full capabilities of their microwaves and stick to a few buttons and Time Cook. With our new GE microwave scan-to-cook technology, your son or daughter can head off to college and cook food with the help of their phone instead of relying on mom.
The scan-to-cook feature would prove very helpful for those who’ve never tapped into presets, defrost, or power settings of a microwave oven. All they need is just use their smartphones to scan the barcode on food packaging using the companion mobile app, and microwave will get all the requisite cooking instructions automatically. However, it can always be controlled with the onboard electronic touch panel and timer. In addition, it comes with a child lock to prevent accidental activation.
Made from stainless steel, the 900W, GE Smart Countertop Microwave measures 19W x 11.5H x 14.5D inches. It comes preprogrammed with more than 3,000 frozen, refrigerated and shelf-stable food items, with more to be added over time.
In addition, the microwave is compatible with Amazon Alexa, which means you can simply give voice instructions to control cooking settings to achieve the ultimate kitchen convenience.
GE Appliances and Amazon are teaming up to offer a lightning deal in which they are offering the microwave with an Amazon Echo Dot at a discounted price of $155 for a limited period starting July 18. The microwave is priced at $139.
