The waves of the sea have been a source of inspiration for many designers and creatives out there. Following the similar line, the Denmark-based furniture brand Montana Furniture has come up with a new chair collection that is made of 100-percent recycled plastic. Dubbed Marée, this series of sustainable chairs draws inspiration from the waves of the water.

The designer Jens Martin Skibsted has utilized his rational design philosophy that’s visible in the straight lines and lack of superfluous details of the seats. Its design mimics the movements of the tide that create the distinctive wave-shaped sand grooves.

Skibsted believes the unique shape provides structural strength and an aesthetic element to the chair design. The designer has taken five years to develop the series, which involves finding the ideal comfort and upholstery that seamlessly blends with the cut-out in the back.

The Marée chair is available as a shell chair, with options for seat-only upholstery, inside upholstery and full upholstery. There are various textiles to choose from such as Remix 3, Raas, Re-wool, Steelcut 2, Steelcut Trio 3, Sabi and Hallingdal65 – all in eight different colors.
