Los Angeles-based design and furniture company Modernica, in collaboration with Canadian high-end sportswear brand Reigning Champ, unveiled two fiberglass shell chairs lacquered in black. Originally designed in 1948, Fiberglass Shell Chair became a cult over years. Many companies tried their hands and introduced their respective versions of the chair to pay homage to the mid-century modern furniture design.

Modernica x Reigning Champ introduced their own version of a fiberglass shell chair in the year 2021, but it had an all-white finish. Two years later, this collaboration reimagined the fiberglass molded ‘Arm Shell Rocker’ and ‘Side Shell Chair’ in black; and it is fabulous. The all-black finish draws inspiration from Reigning Champ’s monochromatic signature basketball.

Handcrafted in Modernica’s LA factory, the fiberglass shell chair features a 100 percent full-grain aniline leather upholstery that looks sexy and sublime. To complement the leather, the powder-coated metal hardware formulates the base of the furniture. The 16.5-inch seat height and an H base frame make it an ergonomic option.

Alas, these limited-edition chairs won’t be available for long. The Arm Shell Rocker is limited to 15 pieces while the Side Shell is limited to eight. The Modernica Case Study Arm Shell Rocker and Modernica Case Study Side Shell can be purchased at Reigning Champ, for $1200 and $900, respectively. Get your hands on one before they are gone!
