If you are an avid technology reader and waded through my piece on the Philips Screeneo U4 projector, I am pretty sure you can recall that Homecrux was the first to update you on the status of the Screeneo U5 4K Ultra Short Throw laser projector.

Back then Screeneo U5 was in plans and was yet to be launched on crowd-funding websites. Months later, the projector is live on Indiegogo now. The more galvanic update however is all it took was five minutes for the crowd-funding campaign to reach the desired goal.

Despite Philips Screeneo U4 Ultra-Short-Throw Projector receiving mixed reviews, Philips has decided to go big with its gradation. The result is Philips Screeneo U5, Ultra Short Distance projection casting a 150-inch screen when placed 16.5 inches away from the wall. Delivering a crystal-clear true 4K UHD image, Screeneo U5 is also capable of projecting a 120-inch screen with a mere 11-inch wall offset.

Unlike its predecessor, Screeneo U5 doesn’t disappoint with the brightness and promises to deliver ‘ultravivid colors, sharper contrast and richer details’ alongside 2,200 ANSI lumens. The projector is compatible with the full Android TV 11, has Chromecast built-in, and can even be voice controlled by ‘Hey Google’.

On top of it, the projector also has an integrated Dolby Atmos 2.2-channel sound system that will bombast your ears. Other important aspects are a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and dual HDMI 2.1 ports that allow you to connect your projector to external devices.

It’s weird that a gigantic company with a stature as big as Philips takes the crowd-funding route. However, with Philips Projection being a subsidiary unit of Philips based in Switzerland, I assume this is the new normal now (whether to create hype or for any other reason) and may drive many other tech giants to follow the pattern soon.

Those interested in decking their home with Philips Projection’s latest creation can place their orders on the official website of Philips Projection, with delivery estimated to begin in early 2023.
