Teardrop trailers are inarguably the most compact medium of camping but these caravans are incredibly heavy, making it difficult for a small-sized vehicle to tow them comfortably. Enter Rift Utility camper, a teardrop trailer that weighs half than most of your favored teardrop trailers in the market and can even be towed by an EV or motorcycle. If you don’t believe me, check out this teardrop being towed by a tricycle on their social media handle.

Boasting a carbon-fiber shell, the teardrop trailer weighs around 500lbs which is five time lesser than the Ultimate Camper and half the weight of any traditional teardrop trailer. Thanks to its carbon-fiber construction which ensures that the trailer is towable by small and electric vehicles too. The Washington-based startup behind the trailer uses pre-impregnated fiberglass and carbon fiber to manufacture the teardrop, making it sturdy yet lightweight.

Gullwing doors on both sides compliment the glossy body of the trailer and also pave way for the user to enter inside. The trailer capsule is fully insulated with half-inch foam on the core roof and one-inch foam on the core side walls and floor panels. The company’s focus was on using just the right amount of material and cut down the waste, making the camper shell as sustainable as possible.

There is sleeping area facing the rear galley separated by a removable wall that just weighs 10lbs. The galley wall houses all wiring and electronics, with controls accessible from the trailer’s interior. In addition, the trailer also sports a small-scale kitchen with a worktop suitable for preparing or serving food.

With so many teardrop trailers in the market, the choice is obviously yours. But, if you want something lightweight and would love experimenting with carbon fiber, Rift Utility Camper is a good choice for you.

The Finish-It-Yourself version of the camper will cost somewhere around $19,000. Though, it will just be the bare body and you might have to buy other essentials like fridge, mattress and other stuff by yourself. If you want all the essentials handy, you have to pay about $29,000.
