What’s the biggest challenge of camping? Anyone? Well, it’s pooping. Sounds gross, but truthfully, for off-grid adventurers, van lifers, and camping enthusiasts, finding a reliable toilet solution has long been challenging. Campers have often resorted to using several methods for dealing with human waste, depending on the situation. Some dug a hole and covered it with dirt, while others utilized a specialized WAG bag to pack the waste. But the truth is that managing human excreta is still a huge problem in the camping domain.

Luckily, people across the globe are coming up with solutions so you can poop peacefully off the grid. Recently launched Wrappon, a portable and waterless toilet, captures waste and automatically seals it in a bag for odorless disposal. Today, I bring you another interesting off-grid pooping solution, the S1 Sealing Toilet. The maker behind the creation, Compocloset, touts S1 as a dry flush compostable toilet that provides the best individual processing options for both urine and feces.

Unlike traditional portable toilets that rely on heavy, messy liquid tanks, the S1 uses a unique sealing mechanism to separate liquid and solid waste, making disposal cleaner and more environmentally friendly. This is possible courtesy of S1 Sealing Toilet’s patent-pending automatic bagging system, which seals waste in compostable bags with minimal user effort.

“With the push of a button, the automatic sealing mechanism hygienically seals solid waste. The urine goes into an easy-to-empty urine bottle, while the solids are hygienically sealed and bagged for convenient emptying on the Go. The battery can power over 50 seals per charge, with each cartridge providing up to 25 flushes,” the company informs.

By separating liquids from solids, the S1 Sealing Toilet minimizes odor and simplifies waste management. This makes it an ideal choice for remote cabins or tiny homes, where access to plumbing is virtually nonexistent.

The camping-friendly toilet prioritizes user comfort alongside hygiene. It boasts a compact size that fits seamlessly into small spaces, such as vans or tents, without sacrificing functionality. The S1 Sealing Toilet is built from high-quality ABS plastic with stainless steel hinges and waterproof connectors, which makes it a durable off-grid option.

The S1 Sealing Toilet is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, where it can be reserved for $869. I know that is a lot of money for a toilet, but considering fewer options available in the off-grid toilet market, this looks like the best option.
