It’s not something most people like to think about, but in reality, pre-planning your own burial can make it simple and less stressful for your loved ones later. Dave Munson, President of Saddleback Leather Company, also thinks the same, and thus made a six-sided leather coffin for himself in advance. Inspired by the work-life balance concept, he came upon constructing the full-grain leather coffin to make a balance between work and the practical aspects of death.

Munson said;

How are we living? What are we living for? We’re all going to be dead for a lot longer than we’re alive and I wanted to build something that would get people thinking about just how briefly we’re all here on earth.

It is just an 87″ x 36″ hardwood box covered with leather and nine full-grain hides. On the outside, there are six sturdy handles for pallbearers. Interiors of this coffin are lined with soft yet strong pigskin backed with foam, while there are large pockets to keep notes and mementos from your loved ones, and a full-grain leather pillow for comfort, even after death. This pricey leather coffin comes with a fully detachable lid with three leather strap closures. There is also a large wooden plaque hanging inside the coffin that can be customized with words of your choice.

This leather coffin can accommodate anyone up to 6’8″ tall. Aside from serving as a coffin, it can also be used as a coffin table until you are ready for the last ride. Although it’s a weird idea to pre-plan your funeral, but as previously said, it can save your family from tensions involved in last-minute funeral arrangements. If you would like to be buried in this leather coffin, you have to shell about US$25,000 to buy it for your last drive.
