What’s the best way to travel around New Zealand? If you ask Amy and CJ, a Kiwi couple – they’ll suggest, it’s to pack yourself in a tiny house on wheels and venture out. The young couple wanted to travel the country and see all the places that they had only heard of.

To realize this dream, they commissioned tiny house manufacturer Tiny By Taylor to build them a home they could travel in with their little daughter Tilly. Dubbed Shaka Shack their tiny home features a slim and compact design that abides by the legalities and basic road safety requirements in the country.

This tiny house on wheels features a rustic exterior along with a slightly tilted black roof and trim. There are large windows on all sides and a slide away deck to provide extra living space when parked. The overall weight of the tiny home is kept under 2.5 tons for more freedom on roads and bridges.

Despite being small in size, the house feels spacious on the inside. There is a kitchen, bar, couch that turns into bed, and a bathroom with shower and hidden toilet. Another cool feature is the extra-wide back window that offers massive outside views from the bed.

The bar area is certainly the highlight – it can be accessed both from the inside and the extended deck. This is a self-contained tiny house with gray water and freshwater tanks, as well as solar panels and power inlet.

The couple has brilliantly customized the tiny house on wheels according to their needs. It cost them about $70,000 to build. Their move to tiny lifestyle has allowed the couple to cut down on the clothing and other items since there is limited storage space onboard.

There isn’t a lot of luxury but the couple is enjoying the downsized lifestyle. The tiny house helps them travel to new places and stay together with each other enjoying the family moments. Check out their travel experiences and journey on Tiny Travel NZ.
