Splinter Works has always impressed us with their extraordinary creations and this carbon fiber hammock bathtub is no exception. A hammock inspired the UK-based design studio to create this unique bathtub build to offer an entirely unique soaking experience. Its continuous curved bottom profoundly enhances the way you experience something as routine as taking a bath.
According to Miles Hartwell, co-founder of Splinter Works;
Struck by the synergy between the shapes of two compelling symbols of relaxation, a hammock, and a bathtub, we were inspired to develop a piece that would provide the ultimate vehicle for total escapism.
Suspended from the walls, the Vessel bathtub looks just like a hammock filled with water as the user is literally elevated off the ground. Carbon fiber (used in the automotive and aerospace industry) is the primary material that makes it lightweight and sturdy. Stainless steel brackets and gold leaf inserts are added to amplify the visual appeal.
A floor-standing tap fills the tub, and the wastewater drains through the base. The carbon fiber material covers the foam core to help keep water hot for long.
The Vessel is much longer than a usual bathtub which gives the user more room to relax. The design studio gives the user the option to choose the tub size anywhere between 2.6 and 3 meters.
Apart from the carbon fiber version, the bathtub is also available in custom colors including red, blue, yellow, and pink. Splinter Works even gives the option to gild the bathtub in 24-carat gold, silver, copper, or bronze.
The carbon fiber hammock bathtub costs $28,400, while the gilded version comes at a whopping £33,200 (~$43,000).
