While out on a camping tour, RV owners desire more power to remain off-the-grid for a longer time. Looking into this situation, California-based recreational company Xponent Power has unveiled Xpanse, which is touted as the world’s first solar awning for RVs.
Deploying at the push of a button, it is a retractable solar awning that provides shade and also generates over 1.2kW of solar power to run onboard appliances. With a power rating of over 1,000 watts, it can power most appliances depending on usage pattern. It will help you extend off-grid camping trips to a few more days than otherwise possible with your current setup.
The Xpanse solar awning is compatible with most RVs and also works with electrical components used in traditional solar installations on RVs, including charge controllers, batteries, and inverters. It can be installed on both sides of the vehicle and even opposite to an existing awning.

This solar awning is designed to handle significantly higher wind speeds than a fabric awning. It retracts slightly under windy conditions and retracts completely when the wind speed tops a pre-set limit. Additionally, the awning isn’t completely rainproof but its panels are waterproof.
The Xpanse solar awning is slightly longer than 15 feet and extends to about 7 feet when fully expanded. It is currently available for pre-order through the official website. You can reserve one for $100 right now. The Xponent Power Xpanse solar awning is priced for $7,500 until November 15 and thereafter, it will retail for $10,000.
