World-famous architect Zaha Hadid is recognized for her expressively contoured architecture world over, in hubs like New York, Beijing, and Milan. But aside from her sweeping architectural monuments, Hadid also created paintings, lighting, and pavilions. One of the latter, a rare dining pavilion, is hitting the auction block today on April 8, 2026, with an estimated fetching price of €900,000–€1.1 million ($1.03 million–$1.2 million).

Zaha Hadid, the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize, created the clamshell-shaped VOLY Dining Pavilion in 2015 alongside German architect Patrick Schumacher, a longtime partner at Zaha Hadid Architects. The duo conceptualized the pavilion on commission for the Revolution Project at the Design Miami fair 2015, a few short months before Hadid’s passing in March 2016.

Artnet reports that Hadid wanted to create 24 VOLU Dining Pavilions, each priced at $484,000, but there are currently only two pieces in known circulation. Hitting the Harmitage Fire Art’s design and jewelry auction block today, the second VOLU pavilion is likely to go for $1.03 million to $1.2 million.

The backyard dining setup is one of the last designs by Hadid, making it a relic in itself. The stunning prefabricated structure was envisioned as an ultra-luxe gazebo, and it has become just that. Combining steel and wood inlays, the outdoor setup embodies the architect’s signature futuristic style. It features a mosaic of polygonal panels spreading from the base, along the spine, to sprout across the awning in a beautiful mushroom-like effect.

Both editions come with three benches and a matching table to facilitate an alfresco dining experience. The outdoor furniture for the pavilion is made from the same sustainably sourced American oak that creates the mosaic of wooden inlays throughout the structure’s 215-square-foot steel base.

The VOLU Pavilion lends a fresh intimacy to the biomorphic, futuristic aesthetic of Hadid’s work. Its vibrant colorway forgoes the metallic monochrome, which Hadid is prevalently known for. This architectural gem was auctioned for €1.3 million ($1.5 million) 10 years ago, and is now going under the hammer again. If you are a fan of the late architect’s marvellous work, this is a golden opportunity to own this rare Hadid gem in your backyard. That’s if you can fork up over $1 million!
