Japanese retail company Muji has risen to fame with its reasonably priced prefab micro-huts launched in 2017. Yō no Ie or Plain House is their latest offering, currently selling in Japan for 15,980,000 yen (approximately $155,622). It is a single-story prefab house featuring a large deck with sunken seating and space for a fire pit or garden, inspired by traditional hiraya house.
Yō no Ie is Muji’s first stair-free and low-maintenance prefab home created with Japan’s aging population in mind. It also satiates the growing demand for low-profile homes in suburban Japan. The prefab house looks minimalistic, with wood-paneled exteriors and black metal roof.
There are no partitions inside, which means all the living spaces are connected with each other and owners can configure the space according to personal preference.
There are large sliding doors connecting the indoors with the outdoor deck. The house opens up an opportunity for interacting with the garden as there are large doors in each space and also encourage indoor/outdoor living by allowing easy movement of furniture.

The Yō no Ie house can be customized in different finishes and the price will raise up to $160,000 depending on the additions made.
