In our search for a beautiful teapot, we stumbled across Saji Touki’s creation that blossoms with every drop of hot water you pour into it. The Cherry Blossom teapot is a Banko-yaki teapot, with a history of 300 years, and features painted sakura that change their color to a soft pink shade when hot water is poured into the pot. The blooming flowers bring a soft touch of spring to your home no matter the season, adding a moment of quiet surprise and joy.

The heat-activated color change in the sakura blossoms makes the tea time even more engaging. The handcrafted teapot blends flavor with love and can withstand over 40 degrees Celsius. Notably, the flowers will not blossom below this temperature.

The teapot has a soft, rounded shape, letting the leaves spread evenly when hot water is poured inside. This way, the pot brings out the tea’s full taste and richness.

The pot is 4.1 × 3.3 inches in size and weighs 350g. It can hold up to 400 ml of solution. The teapot is made with Banko-yaki’s shidei clay, which is said to absorb tannins, the source of bitterness. Therefore, the pot is ideal for preparing tea or coffee, making each cup gentler and better.

Experienced artisans prepare the clay first and then mold it with their hands on a potter’s wheel. The lid and the body are crafted to fit each other, and then the teapots are fired at around 1,300°C using a method called “reduction firing,” where oxygen is removed from the kiln. Then the cherry blossom design is applied, and then the pots are fired again.

The pot comes with a stainless steel filter, making it easy to brew coffee. Add the tea leaves or coffee grounds to it and pour some hot water. Although the filter is not removable, it is durable for everyday use and is convenient too. You can enjoy morning tea and evening coffee with this aesthetically pleasing teapot from now on.

The balanced handle, air vent in the lid, and no-drip spout make pouring even easier and smoother. The ceramic cherry blossom teapot is handmade and ensures consistent flavor till the last drop. Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, interested individuals can back the teapot for a $59 early bird price.
