Buying packaged drinking water and bagged ice are two things I consider total wastage of money. Most of us have realized the importance of carrying our own water bottle – with or without an inherent filter – saving some cash and also creating that much plastic pollution. Next thing worth eliminating from your travel bag is bagged ice, and for this, AeroGrip has created a portable ice maker you can use on the go.
It’s called the AG-06 Pro, and is billed as an ice maker for home, car, or outdoors. It is launched via a Kickstarter campaign, and in a few days, has amassed six times its funding goal to take the product closer to production feasibility.
Want ice cubes for your cold brew while driving or for cocktails at a weekend party? Pull out the AeroGrip device from the bag, plug it into a power source, fill the ice tray with water, hit start, and you can have 12 hollow-centered ice cubes ready before you have muddled, mixed, and poured the cocktail in five glasses.

This compact and portable ice maker can make 12 fresh ice cubes in one batch. According to the company, it takes only 20 minutes to do so at room temperature. You can make cubes from water or any juice, or you can even put in fruit chunks to make suckable ice cubes for kids.
The AG-06 Pro uses Peltier cooling technology to make instant ice cubes. This cooling technique is further assisted by two fans at the bottom of the device, pushing heat out fast. This helps decrease wait time and ensure you get full hollow-centered ice cubes in the time you can use the washroom.
The ice maker measures under 8 inches in width and weighs as little as your laptop, 1.5kg, i.e. Its toaster-like form factor ensures you can carry it in the backpack or in the little cupboard of your camper. And when you need ice, roughly 20-25 mins ahead, just pour water into the ice tray and you’re good. The device has a single button onboard; a long press on it instantly kicks off the ice cube making process. When it comes to power, the device adopts a round DC power port instead of USB-C, and comes with a 100-240V home adapter and a 12V car cigarette plug.

A caveat: AG-06 Pro runs on direct power. It needs to be plugged into a wall outlet at home or the office. In the car, you can use the 12V charger. It may be cumbersome for a few prefer portability with battery power for independence, but AeroGrip has ensured the device you get anyway is safe to use.
To that accord, the ice tray is made from food-safe PTFE (Teflon) material, and has three BPA-free polypropylene ice release handles. The handles rest over the cube and are designed to help easily lift and remove a batch of four ice cubes in one go. A quick tap against your glass, and the cubes fall off the handles, right into the drink. “No touching. No mess. Just ice.”
The top of the ice maker is a see-through cover, which lets you enjoy the sight of water or any liquid of your choice, changing form into a solid state. The pleasing AeroGrip AG-06 Pro is currently going for only $69, a 42 percent super early bird discount off its retail price. It is projected to begin shipping in August 2026.
