Salone del Mobile is right around the corner. From small designers to big studios, everyone is ready to exhibit their creations at the event that is being hailed as a special edition to exchange ideas and energies more than ever. Carwan Gallery, a leading international contemporary design gallery renowned for producing cutting-edge collectible designs in collaboration with Robert Stadler is all set to present the OMG-GMO functional collection. BITOSSI Ceramiche is the one who manufactured these pieces for the designer.

The collection features objects (furniture and lighting) that criticize and mock human manipulation of nature. As per the Robert Stadler studio, “It offers a witty comment on the relationship between humans and their environment, as seen through the genetic manipulation of fruit and vegetables.” The main highlight of the collection is the faux slice of Japanese rectangular seedless watermelon that functions as a stool. Poised on four legs, the watermelon slice forms the top of the stool.

“In both dialogue and rupture with this tradition, OMG-GMO highlights the artificiality of the tame fruit and vegetables we cultivate and consume, revealing the fact that their current form is the result of a very long process of agricultural domestication, selective breeding, and bioengineering,” states the designer.

We also have a zucchini that bends in a perfect L-shape to become part of a shelf. There are eggplants that function as wheel-like bases supporting a glass table. Every single item is so cleverly and meticulously designed that they add instant aesthetic and whimsy to your home. Other items used in the collection are avocados, bananas, long-handle dipper gourd, and more. It took two years for the designer to finalize the collection. There are a total of ten items on display, all hand painted.
