Most of us spend time indoors at home or office, all the while missing the warmth and benefits of the sun. The health benefits of sunlight include the release of hormones like melatonin and serotonin affecting our mood and sleep, and boosting Vitamin D levels. Some people use SAD lamps known to simulate sunlight. These help with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), a kind of depression that people undergo during winter months or when there is lack of sunlight. The Sunday light – created by designers Nat Martin and Sean Hammett – is proclaimed to function like a SAD lamp, only better.

This ceiling lighting is an LED that is 300 times brighter than a normal light bulb. It produces 30,000 lumens, casts 10,000 lux at eye level, and uses advanced water-cooling technology that moves around the main structure. The LED is at the lower part of the reflective panel that magnifies the light mimicking the way the earth reflects the light it receives from the sun.

It is a circular overhead light that recreates the feeling of a good sunny day. The light thus helps improve mood, alertness, and energy. But unlike a SAD lamp, it is designed in a way that the user has a pleasant experience sitting under it. It is created to give a soothing experience and reduce harshness which is generally seen in SAD lamps.

It is also an example of lighting created for the daytime. While most modern indoor lighting is nice, it is generally designed to be used in the evening and night. This particular lighting fixture, on the other hand, gives a sunshine-like experience at any time for people who lack natural light in their homes or living spaces.

As per the creators Nat and Sean, spending 30 minutes under their sunshine lighting provides the recommended amount of daily sunshine. The light thus offers health benefits like SAD lamps. It helps in the alleviation of SAD symptoms, improvement in sleep quality, reduced depression symptoms, increased energy levels, mood enhancement, and improvement in cognitive function.
