There is a certain twinkle of je ne sais quoi about a home that has been created with wellness and quality of life in mind. This tiny house with a patio in Auckland invokes the feeling of walking into a zen garden with a profusion of plants and exquisite decorations. Surrounded by gardening patches, the tiny house belongs to Fabian Low, who time-shares it with his partner Steph.

With a background in landscape architecture, Fabian skillfully linked the home to his gardens, where he grows food. 33 x 10-foot house focuses on quality of life, flexibility, multifunctionality, and connection to the natural world outside. The black shipping container exterior offsets the greenery around the house. The interior is spacious, thanks to the high ceiling and the living room flowing into the kitchen without compromising function or form.

There are two entrances to the house; one opens in the bathroom area, while the other is from the patio. The patio entrance opens up into the living room through big glass sliding doors; where a big bamboo table serves as a dining area and a workstation as well. A double futon bed functions as a seating area.

There are guitars and a drum set positioned on either side of the table. A projector screen offers the residents the experience of movie nights in full glamor. There are two fireplaces – one electric and one traditional – to keep the place cozy and toasty on colder days.

On the right side of the living room, there is an expansive kitchen, complete with a four-burner cooktop, an oven, a ventilation hood, a large prep area, and plenty of storage cabinets. There is a large sliding window next to the prep table and sink, which opens up to merge the patio and the kitchen. But what draws the eye to the kitchen is a perched loft-like space in the corner, dotted with a variety of plants and a big window that makes it feel like a balcony.

On the left side of the living room, there is an accent wall with a ceiling high shelf on one corner and an opening to the other. The opening leads to a bathroom space, a walk-in closet, and a staircase leading to the loft. The second entrance opens into a space where a vanity and a mirror sit in a well-lit area. Further inside is the bathroom with a shower and a toilet.

The stairs with built-in storage lead up to a cozy sleeping loft. The low-ceiling loft has a fur wall oozing the snuggly feel one craves in a bedroom. A big round mirror hangs over the stairs, opposite the bed. There is a window in the loft to allow light in, and a projector screen acts as a blind to it. The entire house is dotted with carefully picked-out paintings and sculptural items.

Outside, the patio of the tiny house provides an open, airy space to lounge in. There is a cooking station and a bunch of comfortable chairs, ottomans, and a table. The space can be left open or enclosed through a series of café blinds and curtains to keep wind and rain at bay while enjoying the sprawling views of nature.

This gorgeous dwelling is sure to inspire you to turn your living spaces into a mindful retreat!

Listening to her grandmother weaving nighttime tales to penning down her own thoughts, Priya developed a penchant for stories and their origin early in her childhood. Soon she began getting lost in the world of paintings and books. After her master's in literature, she started writing copiously on diverse topics including architecture, interior design trends, environment, and climate change while learning the ropes of copyediting. Reading novels, painting, and baking are her favorites on her long list of hobbies. She also loves to travel, meet new people, learn about different cultures, and listen to stories.
