In a world, where everything is getting smarter, why should your home locks be mechanically operated? Leveraging on the idea of a smart lock, SwitchBot has announced a retrofit smart door lock that aims to make your dumb lock slightly smarter and keep your home safe and secure.

The Japanese retrofitting smart home brand with the intention to spread its roots further into our homes announced the Curtain Rod 2 this past month. The company is in news again for a SwitchBot smart lock that makes locking and unlocking doors a whole lot safe and easier. Compatible with most deadbolt locks, SwitchBot follows easy steps that help you transform your old lock into a smart one. All you need to do is peel the tape off and the lock is ready to stick to your door.

Powered by two CR123A 3V batteries that promise six months of battery backup, the SwitchBot Lock uses 3M VHB tape to stick to the door. It features a thumb-turn adapter to lock or unlock. The Japanese company touts that the door lock can be installed in under a minute and one need not remove any part of the existing lock. It sounds difficult to digest, but I will suggest you wait for the reviews to pour in to be fully assured before you buy it from the company’s website.

The SwitchBot lock upgrades your deadbolt to a smart lock and features Bluetooth lock pairs. What this means is any user can control the door to open or lock via smartphone. The SwitchBot lock also has an automated lock feature so that when you leave your house, the door will automatically lock. It can also be operated via remote control and it supports voice assistance as well.

SwitchBot mentions that the company finalized the product after undergoing 50,000 locking/unlocking tests. SwitchBot lock doesn’t look like a bad option, but as I said, we will have to wait for some customer reviews to pop to get a fair bit of idea about the product that can be availed at $100. In addition, the SwitchBot Keypad with password and fingerprint unlock is also in work and would soon be dropped, the company notes.
