Being a journalist, a pen and keyboard are my most essential armaments. While the former makes it easier for me to take notes, the latter aids me shape them into a story. If there is anything as important as the pen and keyboard in my life, it’s a chair. Now, don’t get confused, I’ll explain. If pen and paper are the swords of a journalist or a writer, a chair is a chariot helping balance our way through the ‘terrains of life.’

From a common man’s perspective, a chair is a seat poised on four legs that offers comfort for the user. For journalists, writers and editors, and people who spend most of their time in front of a screen, it is more than just a piece of furniture.

Hence, it’s important to pick a chair that offers good ergonomics. From backrest and seat height to armrest and stability, a chair must help you improve posture and elevate comfort level, which Herman Miller holds expertise in.

Famous for contemporary interior furnishings and work chairs, the most admired company in the furniture industry has now revealed Asari Chair made in collaboration with Japanese designer, Naoto Fukasawa. Inspired by organic forms found in nature, the Asari chair – which translates to ‘clam’ in Japanese – is ‘an anthropomorphic metaphor for the shape of the chair’s back, which is available in high and mid-back height.

“My goal was to inspire joy and create a new form, ultimately becoming the next upholstered icon. A core part of my design ethos is to simplify the way we live, imbuing each creation with an attraction that makes people feel dear to it, a timelessness and longevity that enhances a human process,” stated the Tokyo-based designer on his creation.
