There has been a wave of single-box speakers lately, which includes DALI Vega and Canvas L – both housing multiple drivers in a single cabinet to deliver audiophile-grade sound quality. This doesn’t mean actual stereo speakers are going to fade anytime soon, as a true audiophile knows the importance of sound coming from a physical unit compared to digital modification. Popular audio gear brand Klipsch has already launched its Rebellion Bookshelf speaker to cater to the stereo speaker community, and now Yamaha has launched the NX-70A model. This model follows a similar approach to compete with the market leader KEF LS50 Wireless II.

It is Yamaha’s first wireless stereo speaker system suitable for smaller listening spaces and those who do not prefer a soundbar. Interestingly, the left and right speakers can also connect wirelessly using a dedicated, lag-free wireless radio link, which will make placement in any room easy. Yamaha says the speaker offers a frequency response at 50 Hz to 35 kHz when connected wirelessly, and you can also connect it using the included cable to get an extended frequency response of 50 Hz to 21 kHz.

Built as a 2-way bass-reflex system, the NX-70A wireless stereo speaker is equipped with a 13 cm (5.25-inch) cone woofer and a 3 cm (1.25-inch) dome tweeter. Both utilize a unique diaphragm blend of lightweight ZYLON (a rigid synthetic fiber used in flagship Yamaha speakers) and spruce wood (material found in its grand piano soundboards) to reproduce both instruments and voices equally well.

At the heart of the NX-70A sound is Synergistic Drive technology, which uses an integrated circuit approach where amplifier and speaker drivers are designed from scratch as a dedicated pair. It makes the system precisely manage electric current flow to minimize electrical distortion, as with conventional amplifier speaker interactions.

What makes it stand out from the other products is the YPAO Acoustic Calibration, which measures the listening environment with a dedicated microphone and adjusts the playback for your space. Yamaha explains, “In the NX-70A, YPAO R.S.C. (Reflected Sound Control) manages early reflections that strongly affect stereo clarity, while high precision EQ fine tunes tonal balance.” This results in a natural and balanced soundstage, no matter where the speakers are placed.

Yamaha has also carefully built the NX-70A cabinet with a rounded form to avoid parallel surfaces that suppress internal standing waves, while rigid construction controls unwanted vibration. Additionally, a 5 mm aluminum plate is integrated into the top of the cabinet, secured with screws for additional strength during playback.

The speaker is fully compatible with Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect. It runs on Yamaha’s MusicCast ecosystem for multi-room integration and is Roon Ready for local library streaming. It comes with an HDMI eARC/ARC port with CEC support, allowing you to connect directly to a television.

The primary speaker unit has an OLED screen on the lower front section to provide visual feedback. You can control it with the companion mobile app, the included remote control, and even the TV remote when it is connected using the HDMI cable.

Each speaker measures 189 x 234 x 333mm, or approx. 7.5 x 9.25 x 13.125 inches. The primary speaker weighs 5.7 kg / 12.6 pounds, while the secondary speaker weighs 5.4 kg / 11.9 pounds. Available in black and white finishes, these speakers are designed to be paired with the SPS-70A stand, making them perfect for a living room or home theater setup.

There are no official pricing details for now, but some reports are claiming the Yamaha NX-70A wireless stereo speaker system costs £2,587 (roughly $3,500), taking it to the high-end league. No doubt it boasts some really great audio specs, and that’s why Ecoustics dedicated audio gear magazine tags it as “one of the more credible new wireless stereo systems to watch in 2026.”
